VisIting Dublin? Stay in a homestay for an authentic experience

Tell us about your homestay experience.

Staying at Ciaran's house in Dublin was an extraordinary experience. The warmth and hospitality I received made it feel like a home away from home. What I enjoyed the most was the personalized guidance Ciaran provided. He shared all the local tricks for navigating Dublin, which is something you don't get from staying in a hotel or a hostel. The quiet and cool neighborhood was a perfect retreat after a day of exploration. Compared to other types of accommodation, a homestay offers a unique blend of comfort, local insights, and a sense of belonging that’s hard to find elsewhere.

What did you do in Dublin?

During my stay in Dublin, I explored various parts of the city and its surroundings. I visited popular attractions like Trinity College, the Book of Kells, and the bustling Temple Bar area. I also took leisurely walks in St. Stephen’s Green and Phoenix Park. What surprised me the most was the vibrant yet laid-back atmosphere of Dublin. The city's rich history is perfectly complemented by its modern vibe. I ventured to local markets, enjoyed traditional Irish music in pubs, and even took day trips to nearby coastal towns.

Any tips or advice for other travellers?

For other travelers, my top tip would be to stay in a homestay for an authentic experience. Make sure to explore both the well-known and the lesser-known parts of the city. One must-see place is the Guinness Storehouse, where you can learn about the history of the famous brew and enjoy a pint with a panoramic view of the city. Another standout memory was my late-night bus ride back to Ciaran's house; the bus service runs until after midnight, which made getting around very convenient. Using Google Maps was a lifesaver for navigating public transport.

How was your experience with your host?

My experience with Ciaran, my host, was exceptional. He was very knowledgeable about Dublin and its hidden gems. I learned a lot about the local culture and the best spots to visit. His tips made my trip smoother and more enjoyable. This homestay experience was different from my day-to-day life because it allowed me to immerse myself in the local way of living, something that’s often missed when staying in standard accommodations. Ciaran’s friendly demeanor and willingness to help made my stay truly memorable.
